About the event
About the Webinar:
Research is key in the path to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and managing its symptoms. It can be the difference people with Parkinson's are waiting on. Dr. Haydeh Payami and her team of Researchers are the latest winners of the Heersink School of Medicine's Featured Discovery for their study, “Metagenomics of Parkinson’s disease implicates the gut microbiome in multiple disease mechanisms". You will hear from Dr. Payami during November's live-stream webinar as she expounds on the study and its important findings.
About Dr. Haydeh Payami:
Dr. Payami is an immigrant from Iran, she received her PhD from the University of California at Berkeley, where she was trained as a mathematical geneticist. She is the founder and lead investigator of the NeuroGenetics Research Consortium, which has collected a large human dataset for Parkinson’s disease research. Her work initially focused on the genetics of disease then expanded to human genome-environment interaction. Now she studies the interaction of gut microbiome, human genome, and environmental toxicants. She aims to identify factors that trigger Parkinson’s disease pathology, biomarkers for early detection, and leads for improving treatment.
